Part of a major international group, this organisation has recently built a new manufacturing facility on a 'green field site' to produce complex high value components for the automotive industry. As a Continuous Improvement Engineer your role will be to oversee and lead improvement activity for the die casting manufacturing operations with particular emphasis on SMED and tool change process stability / improvement
Continuous Improvement Lead (SMED)

Location: Telford, Shropshire
Reporting to the Operations Manager, the role of CI Engineer will be responsible for overseeing and leading continuous improvement of the casting manufacturing process. Actively present on the shop floor, you will drive improvements in performance, die change capability, training and standardisation.
This includes:
o Design, develop and implement World Class Tooling/ Die Change over process
o Use and train colleagues in SMED methodology
o Create a Die Change strategy that is expandable across all shifts
o Manage, train and coach and support departmental functions
o Drives standardisation and 5S through events and daily activities
o Manages and generates KPI's
o Support the development and role out of Standard Running Conditions across all Die Cast Machines and products
o Work with departmental Line Managers to maximise efficiency and productivity.
Analysing systems and processes to make necessary improvements (CI).
o Ensure capacity plans are achieved and reviewed in order to meet agreed customer requirements, where impacted by Die Changes
Knowledge and Education
You will already have a proven track record working in a Lean/ CI, Process Engineer,  Manufacturing Engineer or Production Engineering role within a high volume manufacturing facility incorporating tool or die changes activity.
o Apprentice / HND/Degree in an Engineering related subject preferred with lean manufacturing and/ or six sigma training highly desirable
o Proven experience training or leading productivity improvements incorporating tool / die change over and SMED methodology
o Knowledge of die casting, plastic injection moulding, stamping or similar manufacturing  processes involving tooling
o In-depth understanding of Lean Manufacturing/ Continuous Improvement methodologies and how to apply them in practice
o Confident hands-on approach, problem solving and rout cause analysis.
o Knowledge of route cause analysis and structured problem solving ( 8D, PPS, Fish bone)
