HSE Recruitment are working with a manufacturing company in Witney, Oxfordshire to find them a new HSE Manager. Working as part of a team you will have the opportunity to join a growing business, supporting three local sites in improving over all standards and accountability, ensuring better communication and understanding of safety and building on some very strong foundations.
This role reports into a QHSE Manager and has a HSE Advisor reporting into them. There are three sites in the local area ranging in size and age, in purpose (manufacturing, assembly, warehousing, offices) and at different stages on their H&S journey. The business are close knit, everyone is on first name terms and the QHSE team in particular are close knit and work really well together.
This role will be hands on, supporting the sites day to day, dealing with the different managers, supervisors and shop floor staff, helping them to understand what needs to be done, working with them to try and come up with solutions that work for everyone but also pushing back when needed.
The business holds various ISO accreditations including 9001, 45001 and 50001. In terms of culture, the business is on a journey and each site is at a different stage. The biggest challenges are training, ensuring SOP, method statements and risk assessments are completed and pushing the onus of H&S and those accountabilities, onto the shop floor. They need to enhance the management systems, get the sites working better, more cross functional and cross departmental working. It’s about educating the business on the whys and how it impacts them, so they are more bought in.
Main Tasks:
• To control the system requirements in line with ISO 45001 and aspects of ISO 14001
• Ensure company and legislative requirements within company policy, procedures and systems remain compliant through regular review and guidance to process owners
• Promote safe working practice and be a role model within the operations of this subject in conjunction with HR Department and QHSE Manager.
• To oversee H&S compliance reviews and risk assessments / COSHH Risk Assessments with guidance to Managers to own and implement in their departments. Direction given to the HSE Advisor to support these requirements.
• Ensuring all relevant Health, Safety and aspects of Environmental training is identified, including inductions. Managers to ensure training and controls are applied.
• Prepare applicable HSE reports as necessary
• Carry out or co-ordinate detailed incident investigation and root cause analysis with the HSE Advisor.
What they are looking for-
• NEBOSH Certificate level qualification as a minimum but ideally working towards a Diploma level qualification in H&S.
• An experienced HSE professional at advisor level ready to step up or a manager already.
• Ideally experience in an industrial manufacturing environment but we will consider other sectors.
• We need someone supportive, tenacious, confident and who can operate at all levels.
• Also someone down to earth, who will get the job done and work effectively as part of a team.
