HSE Recruitment are working with a leading Energy and Utilities business, seeking to find a new Health, Safety, Security and Environment Manager - HSSE Manager, as part of internal growth. This role reports into the Head of HSE and will sit within the corporate team, making them a team of 4 ‘subject matter experts’. It is a home based role but there will be travel to their Head Office in the West Midlands approx. once a week and occasional travel to their sites across the UK, of which there are circa 20. The travel will change depending on the needs of the business.

Sitting as part of the core ‘specialist central function team’ you will be a catalyst for leading the achievement of challenging risk reduction and performance improvement ambitions. You will be involved in strategic level improvement plans and that cycle of development and responsibility of the end to end project. From identification of gaps or areas of improvement, research and planning, through to implementation of a companywide improvement plan. They are a very data driven business, reporting on this weekly, so the team can react quickly.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Progress key elements of their culture change programme
  • Provide insight and analysis to enable continued improvement in HSE performance.
  • Development of information, instruction, and training materials to support HSE programmes
  • Devise and execute strategies and campaigns with internal and external support to improve the HSE performance
  • Provide guidance and support to ensure legal compliance for health, safety, and environment
  • Horizon scan to keep pace with technological and industrial improvements which reduce health, safety, and environment risk exposure
  • Remain relevant by engaging regularly with the wider business teams, undertaking site visits, and experiencing our work as is done, at the point of risk
  • Lead on collecting and submitting information for the wider Business Support Framework audit and other external reporting requirements
  • Review and update HSE business risks and working in conjunction with the team to maintain the company HSE risk register

What we are looking for:
  • Ideally Diploma level qualified in health and safety and CMIOSH/ working towards.
  • Backgrounds we will consider; any high risk sectors such as energy & utilities, construction, water, engineering, manufacturing.
  • Experience working in a UK wide or similar multi-site organisation.
  • Development of policy, standards, and procedures.
  • Experience in identifying gaps or improvements and managing that end to end project from inception to implementation at a high level.
  • Understanding of enterprise risk management and control
  • Development of policy, standards, and procedures.
  • Incident reporting data analysis and performance improvement
  • Incident investigation and root cause problem solving
  • Problem solving and planning skills to maximise delivery of challenging improvement plans
  • Proven track record in reducing HSE risks and improving performance
  • Crisis and emergency response management
